Chromacore®
In the beginning ... there was the LED. Unlike conventional incandescent and gaseous discharge sources, LEDs (light emitting diodes) are small semiconductor devices that convert electrical energy directly into a discrete color of light. The LED, first invented in the early 1960s, emitted a dim glow of red light, but has come a long way since its humble beginnings as an indicator light. As additional colors such as green and amber emerged, more applications surfaced in electronics products such as calculators, digital watches, and stereos.led Next came high brightness LEDs, which yielded performance increases allowing LEDs to cross the threshold from a mere source of indication to a source of illumination. LEDs started showing up everywhere -- in exit signs, messaging boards, traffic signals and automotive rear brake lights. Finally, in the early 1990s, LEDs took yet another leap in performance. More importantly during this time, the advent of the long-awaited blue LED provided the missing link in the visible spectrum.

Enter Color Kinetics and Chromacore technology.

The enlightened minds at Color Kinetics understood what these developments could bring to the illumination industry, and set to work. The result? A breakthrough intelligent LED illumination technology called Chromacore.

Leveraging the many LED advancements, patented Chromacore technology marries the inherently digital nature of these semiconductor-based light sources with the intelligence of a microprocessor, which controls all aspects of illumination including color, brightness, and special effects in both stand alone and networked environments.

So how does it work?
