Welcoming visitors to a pioneering retail site
Ever since it opened its doors to the public in December 2007, ADA — the first shopping center in Adapazari, Turkey — has housed an impressive array of international and national brand shops, as well as a movie theater, children's play area, food court, and assortment of other eateries. But the two-floor, 90-store behemoth lacked a striking exterior to match its commanding retail presence, so management enlisted the help of Signify Light Solutions & Services to design and implement a lighting display that would illuminate the building's massive façade with captivating light shows. The team turned to Color Kinetics for a dynamic LED lighting solution that would draw in more customers and represent ADA's vibrant offerings.
The Signify team, headed by lighting designer Tuba Baskan Bostanci, laced 121 strands of Color Kinetics iColor Flex MX across the building's gridded 7 x 45 m (23 x 148 ft) video façade to achieve the vivid light shows. The 50-node luminaires, controlled by a Color Kinetics Light System Manager (now specified with iPlayer 4), animate the screen with running messages and designs against numerous colorful backgrounds. The screen is flanked on its left side by 30 eW Flex SLX LED strands, and on its right by eight eW Graze Powercore luminaires. The eW Flex SLX nodes form a horizontal strip of 2700 K warm white accent light to complement the splashy façade. The eW Graze Powercore luminaires round out the intricate design, also providing 2700 K warm white light to bring out textural details.
The Signify team completed the dazzling lighting installation in December 2012 — just in time for the busy holiday season. Now the mall's presence is expanding as people gather to snap photos with the façade and record their interactions through social media. ADA's new face has especially increased nighttime traffic in the region, stopping mall-goers and passersby alike in their tracks with its host of playful light shows and running messages. "Playing animation and dynamic shows on the façade has helped us captivate our customers," Åžener Kiraz, ADA's technical manager, said. "We are very pleased with the capabilities of the new lighting system."
