History comes to life along the Beekdaelenroute

The Beekdaelen bicycle path leads cyclists along 50 kilometers of the most stunning scenery in the municipality – natural vistas, castles, restaurants, and symbols of cultural history, including the Clemens Church in Vogelsvalderenweg.

Six icons depicting saints were incorporated into the asphalt across 600 m (1969 ft) of the route. The primary challenge of this project was to find a suitable solution for the material on which the saints are displayed, because in addition to cyclists, heavier vehicles can drive along the path. A thick plastic solved this concern.

Completed in November 2020, a comprehensive Color Kinetics lighting solution provides the high quality and durability required to function in concrete and under the weight of the pedestrian, cycling, and driving traffic. Color Kinetics ColorGraze IntelliHue Powercore (16 pcs) fixtures are mounted inground to illuminate trees and entrance signage. Color Kinetics Vaya Free Form (6 pcs) is located within each of the 6 icons. The lighting system is powered by Color Kinetics Data Enabler Pro and controlled by Color Kinetics iPlayer 3.

As darkness falls, the icons come to life with light, embellishing the surface of the path and reinforcing the area’s spiritual identity. The effect is magical.
