Located in southern Indonesia is the island of Lombok, also known as “the island of a thousand mosques”. Lambok’s capital city of Mataram is where the Lights at the Islamic Center Mataram project shine brilliantly every night. The installation was unveiled July 25, 2016, in honor of the Indonesian national holiday Musabaqah Tilawatil Quran (MTQ). The hugely successful event took place at the Islamic Center in Mataram from July 27th through August 7th, 2016.
The Indonesian Ministry of Tourism had very specific design requirements and project goals for the Islamic Center. Most importantly, the lighting had to be completed in time for the MTQ holiday. The design requirements included: increasing mosque visibility at night, promoting the diverse culture of Lombok, and increasing tourism levels. The center owner required that the luminaires be easy to change and arranged in accordance with design fluctuations. The solution also had to be extremely reliable with excellent long-term support services, and energy efficient.
Vaya luminaires were chosen for this task due to their superior energy efficiency, versatility in design applications and dramatic lighting effect.
Vaya Flood White and RGB luminaires are positioned around each tower to create dynamic color changing effect. High quality illumination of the main mosque dome was key to creating the desired dramatic effect. To achieve this effect, Vaya Flood RGB were mounted around the perimeter to wash the entire dome in color changing light. The result is a highly dynamic and colorful structure.
