Southwater One is a leisure center at the heart of Telford. It boasts a new library, a coffee shop, ice rink, and an IMAX theater. Southwater is dubbed Telford’s “flagship community building,” and also houses a lake, green space, and public spaces. Council business director Dave Sidaway described the opening of Southwater One as “a big milestone for the history of Telford”.
“This is transformational for Telford. It’s very clear Telford’s on the up and we’re very proud of that,” he said. He described the Southwater library as “state of the art” - the third new library to open in Telford in three years. The Southwater Library is housed in an iconic gold building at the heart of Southwater Square.
As part of the development of SW1 Southwater, the Telford council wanted to combine the architectural lighting elements of the SW1 building and the new Travelodge hotel by bringing together the landscaping elements, which included specially designed etched totems and tree uplighting. Color Kinetics ColorGraze MX4 Powercore RGBW luminaires are used to illuminate the exterior of the building’s facade, using various luminaire lengths to suit the three protruding levels of the building. A Pharos controller is located within the plant room of the hotel and is linked to SW1 for seamless co-ordination of lighting shows. Having the Pharos controller wired to the network gives the flexibility to control the lighting from any network access around the world.
