Hidden lighting that makes a big statement

Located in the heart of the Laureano Gomez Park in Montería, ColombiaSaint Jerome Cathedral is a notable fusion of Gothic and Republican architecture. The structure features a bell tower, two protruding towers with arched niches, and a whitewashed façade. Intricate stained glass windows adorn the central nave, providing a serene and sacred space.

The design objective of the project was to highlight the cathedral with a dynamic LED lighting solution that could deliver both tranquil lighting and lively lighting effects with high-performance saturated and pastel colors. The system needed to avoid any major impact on the architecture and appearance of the cathedral.

A Color Kinetics lighting system was selected due to its portfolio, which offers a wide selection of products and unrivaled technical capabilities that deliver exceptional full-color light displays. Color Kinetics Certified System Integrator, Energy Solutions, LTDA, used Color Kinetics Graze Compact Powercore, IntelliHue because of its ultra-low profile, high performance, and ability to deliver millions of saturated colors, pastels, and high-quality white light from the same precisely controllable luminaire. Graze Compact Powercore, IntelliHue 4 ft (32 fixtures) and Graze Compact Powercore, IntelliHue 1 ft (87 fixtures) were installed on the façade 10 cm (4 in) away from the wall and spaced 30 cm (12 in) to 4 m (13 ft) apart to highlight the cathedral’s architectural details.

Four Color Kinetics ColorBurst IntelliHue Powercore luminaires spotlight the bells and the tower clock to complete the design. Color Kinetics iPlayer 3 controls the light shows and Color Kinetics Data Enabler Pro (13 pieces) delivers data and power to the system. At just 2000 W, the power consumption for this system is so low, no changes were needed to the cathedral’s electrical infrastructure.

For a long time, the project team had sought a solution that would minimize any effect on the cathedral’s appearance. With the introduction of Graze Compact, the smallest grazing luminaire on the market, they finally had the opportunity to meet project requirements and deliver an iconic lighting solution for the client.
