The Brussels Intercommunal Transport Company - or Société des Transports Intercommunaux te Bruxelles (STIB) - is responsible for managing all public transportation in Brussels, including buses, trams, and the metro.
STIB purchased and completely renovated the Belgolaise building in the heart of Brussels to create a new dispatch center. Given the absence of exterior windows at the center of the ground floor workspace, STIB decided to install lighting capable of delivering a daylight effect to provide a more comfortable environment for employees and visitors.
Completed in January 2020, STIB installed 48 Color Kinetics OneSpace Prefab panels (now specified with OneSpace gen2) 1500 x 1500 mm (59.1 x 59.1 in) in tunable white to deliver bright, uniform, glare-free light that eliminates shadows and enhances room acoustics by reducing disturbing sound reflections. Tunable white light in a range of color temperatures from 2700 K to 6500 K enables STIB to adjust the lighting to warm hues of white light in the morning and bright energizing light during the day to complement the daily routine. The panels were mounted approximately 4 m (13 ft) above the workstations. The system also includes a controller and an ethernet gateway.
OneSpace has transformed the STIB dispatch center’s ground floor ceiling into a seamless, cohesive space with the feeling of natural sunlight, creating a serene and calm office environment.
