Ideally situated just 57 km (35 mi) from the capital city Santiago de Chile, the new Sun Monticello Casino is among the largest casinos in Latin America. The casino complex is comprised of several buildings, including a casino, hotel, and arena.
The interior and exterior lighting design for the new casino was intended to create a dynamic, high-impact, and upbeat atmosphere that can be seen from great distances and visually connect the city to the coast.
An end-to-end Color Kinetics lighting system was selected for its efficiency and low energy consumption, as well as unrivaled color consistency, flexibility, and quality. Color Kinetics proprietary Optibin technology bins LEDs by flux and center wavelength to ensure color consistency over time - ideal for when Color Kinetics luminaires for a project are purchased and installed at different times and for color matching replacement luminaires.
The flexibility of Color Kinetics LED lighting systems allows for the integration of luminaires of different types, beam angles, flux, and more. This project encompassed diverse façades, interiors, and access to different parts of the building with the same content. The scalability and flexibility of the system enabled easy connection and installation, which made the project possible.
The ease and speed of creating and displaying light shows was also a factor in the decision to use a Color Kinetics lighting system. Patented Color Kinetics software offers uniquely versatile show designs. The aesthetics of the Color Kinetics luminaires also positively influenced the purchase decision with clean, uncracked parts, and with the longevity required for a project of this magnitude.
A prominent interior wall features stunning Murano Glass butterflies, arranged in a group as if flying together. Color Kinetics iColor Flex LMX gen2 (now specified with Flex Compact gen3, RGB) placed behind the translucent butterflies displays a beautiful and dynamic multicolor glitter effect. Adding to the lively interior ambience, Color Kinetics iColor Cove QLX luminaires (now specified with PureStyle Compact Powercore, RGBA) concealed beneath the dance floor, deliver indirect lighting that generates a stunning, low-glare effect.
The comprehensive Color Kinetics lighting system is controlled by Color Kinetics Light System Manager (now specified with iPlayer 4), and power and data are provided by Color Kinetics Data Enabler Pro.
The building’s signature frosted translucent glass façade has become a wonderful canvas for a variety of dynamic LED light shows that call attention - and visitors - to the building from a distance, like an enormous lantern.
